DULUTH, Minn. — One Roof Community Housing has been recommended to receive over 50 million dollars in funding for building and renovation– which should help the current housing shortage in the northland.
The funding from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency will be the largest amount One Roof has ever received.
The funds will go towards providing affordable single family homes in the Duluth area, as well as the building and renovation of almost 100 apartments.
Including the development of 72 affordable apartments for seniors and the redevelopment of family apartments in the northland.
“It’s great to know we have all that work in front of us, we can just focus on getting it done and doing the things we need to do,” said Jeff Corey, One Roof Community Housing, Executive Director. “So next summer we won’t have to apply for nearly as many dollars in development funding that we typically would, so it really helps us focus on cranking out these houses and getting them ready for people to buy, and building those apartments and renovating those apartments.”
Executive Director Jeff Corey says the money not only helps in providing affordable housing, but puts One Roof on the path to building more homes for years to come.
“We’re really grateful to the State of Minnesota and making these funds available, the legislature for determining that we’re going to be prioritizing housing and then the Housing Finance Agency for getting those dollars on the street so quickly,” said Corey.
A portion of the funding will also be going towards One Roof’s Down Payment Assistance program to help lower income home buyers.
Corey says construction of the single family homes is projected to start in late 2024.
